The Finchley Clinic, Triamazon and the Law.

9th September, 2010 4

There is nothing too remarkable about the Finchley Clinic in London. Apart that it is not really a clinic as you might understand the word. It is run by a chap called Mark Lester who apparently used to offer a number of questionable alternative medicine therapies, including ozone therapy, bowen therapy and very unorthodox tests such as Rife machine and something called electro-crystal therapy. These days, the Finchley Clinic just [read more…]

An Obituary: Royal London Homeopathic Hospital, 1849-2010

7th September, 2010 172

The Royal London Homeopathic Hospital of Great Ormond Street, London, has passed away after a long battle with science. Today, we learned from gimpy’s blog that London will no longer have a homeopathic hospital of its own. The Hospital can trace its origins back to The London Homeopathic Hospital founded by Dr. Frederick Foster Quin, the first homeopath in England. Quinn was a pupil of the founder of homeopathy, Dr [read more…]

The Earl of Bewdley’s Response to the House of Commons Evidence Check

23rd July, 2010 12

Look, I am cooking a moussaka at the moment. But I thought this needed discussing. This document is doing the rounds in quack circles and is a prominent response to the House of Commons Evidence Check on Homeopathy. With the Government likely to respond to this document as early as next week, I thought this required discussion. Given that the writer is an Earl, his opinions are obviously far more [read more…]

Doctor’s Data and Bogus Tests

7th July, 2010 35

This week in The Lawyer, Robert Dougans and David Allen Green wrote about the emerging phenomenon of ‘wiki litigation’ where there is large scale scrutiny and participation in legal proceedings using the web as a shared medium. They used the example of the British Chiropractic Association’s libel case against science writer Simon Singh. This was not just the web watching the case – but actively participating by the scrutiny of [read more…]

The Curious Case of Nativis, The Forsaken Nobel Prize Winner and the Ghost of Jacques Benveniste

10th June, 2010 20

I was recently alerted by Bob Park’s rather great What’s New email about an extraordinary new company in the US called Nativis. They have a swish new web site that proclaims “The New Era of Drug Signal Therapy”. Nativis state they are developing a range of new medical products with the  first being called Digitax™ which is aimed at “reducing and eliminating brain tumors”. Exciting stuff. And what makes this look [read more…]

The Magnetic Therapy Water Wand: A Debunking from History

8th June, 2010 19

The recent rain has ensured the last sniffles of hayfever have subsided. It has been a bad few days and the antihistamines may have made things a little more comfortable – but it is the natural cure of a downpour that has really done the trick. I know that many people have been suffering over the past week. The pollen levels must have been particularly high. And, helpful as ever, [read more…]

Fossilised Medicine

1st June, 2010 16

This weekend, the Alliance of Registered Homeopaths will be holding their AGM. On the same day, they will be offering their members some Continuing Professional Development with a course on the ‘healing potential’ of fossils. According to Martine Mercy, who will be giving the course, fossils represent “powerful healing from the dawn of time” and “are minerals with a difference, due to their geometrical markings and inscribed memories.” Mercy tells [read more…]

Find Your Dr Evan Harris and Vote For Them

5th May, 2010 12

Tomorrow we will be voting. If I lived a few hundred yards North, just over the river, I could cast my vote for Dr Evan Harris. I envy my neighbours. They have a real choice  in candidate and their vote will count.  The constituency of Oxford West and Abingdon is a marginal where it is not clear cut who will win. My own constituency is a pretty safe seat and my vote [read more…]

Their statement reads. 30 April 2010 The Trustees of The Prince’s Foundation for Integrated Health have decided to close the charity. Whilst the closure has been planned for many months and is part of an agreed strategy, the Trustees have brought forward the closure timetable as a result of a [read more…]
